Method

Use a name as a doorway

A name should lead back to a whole observation: locality, habitat, growth form, leaves, flowers and date. Treat photographs without that context as prompts for comparison, not final proof.

Taxonomy

Names can change

Botanical names and species boundaries are revised as evidence improves. Keep the name originally used in a field record, then add the currently accepted treatment rather than erasing the history of the observation.
