Carry a current regional flora
Choose references that show diagnostic structures and geographic range, not only flower photographs. Check publication date and note later taxonomic changes separately.

Use offline mapping
Download a topographic map before departure, mark the return route and record observations without depending on mobile coverage. A paper backup remains useful in cold or wet conditions.

Conditions
Check access and weather locally
Mountain weather and access can change quickly. Confirm current conditions with appropriate local authorities or land managers and turn back when visibility, heat, snow or storms make observation unsafe.
