Mosaic

Edges are botanically productive

Forest clearings, rocky margins and grazed openings often carry more visible flowering plants than closed woodland. Describe the edge itself, including shade duration and soil depth.

02

Use

Disturbance leaves a pattern

Grazing, tracks and seasonal use can favour some plants while excluding others. Separate heavily disturbed ground from natural openings in the field notebook.

03

Survey

Repeat a short transect

A measured route from forest interior to open high ground makes seasonal comparisons possible and keeps common species from being overlooked.
